Conversational Hypnosis

Conversational Hypnosis, developed by Certified Hypnotherapist Clifford Mee, is a method for putting someone into a trance.

The method has garnered a lot of attention, as well as some controversy, because it claims to be able to quickly and easily put someone under your control. Once mesmerized, the system claims they can be controlled in order to do anything you want them to. It is sometimes referred to as "covert hypnosis".

There is no doubt that it is a powerful method, and there are legions of practicioners that swear by it. It's worth noting, however, that the website has a disclaimer stating that no one can truly be 'forced' into doing anything unwillfully.

Having someone immediately obey your commands, particularly without their knowledge or realization of what is being done is the "Holy Grail" of this type of hypnosis. The potential to have power over another's actions and will isn't what makes this system so remarkable - after all, this is one of the fundamental goals of hypnotism.

It is the ability to do it, on demand, and without the subjects awareness that they are being hypnotized.

Clifford Mee, the developer of this method, certainly has the credentials. In addition to being a Certified Hypnotherapist with the American Board of Hypnotherapy, he is a Certified Master Ericksonian Hypnotherapist.

(Dr. Milton H. Erickson was the founder and President of the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis - see "History of Hypnosis" elsewhere on this site. In addition, the "NLP" or "Neuro-Linguistic Programming" movement is based on his work.)

The concept behind Conversational Hypnosis, and the reason for it's name, is in using hypnotic techniques within what would seem to be ordinary conversation. My "masking" the inducement of trance, or heightened suggestibility, a subject doesn't realize they are being hypnotised.

Once this is accomplished, it the suggestion, or "control" phase is begun. This is also masked as ordinary conversation. Since the person is already focused inwards at this point and open to suggestion, it becomes easier to influence or control them.

Learning Conversational Hypnosis is not a trivial undertaking. The material is broken down into 12 main areas, or 'sessions' as they are called, plus 4 additional advanced 'sessions'. These are accompanied by a hefty 600-plus page workbook and manual.

As with anything else of this nature, learning to use the techniques effectively requires time, patience, and practice.

Conversational Hypnosis is a breath-taking concept, and with the right attitude and commitment, can achieve quite amazing, even startling results!
